About the role

You bring a rigorous academic perspective to a real personal-computing problem while keeping a clearly defined university role. This is designed as a genuine dual appointment rather than a consulting arrangement with a nicer name, and your independence is part of what makes it valuable.

The work

Co-design a bounded research agenda with an internal technical owner. Mentor researchers, review experiments and help create publishable findings. Agree time commitments, institutional permissions, conflicts, IP, data access and publication arrangements before the appointment begins.

What good looks like

Within the first 90 days of the agreed appointment, produce a research plan, a baseline and one substantive technical review.

Evidence we look for

Bring an active research program relevant to systems, architecture, security, AI or human-computer interaction. Show interest in both scientific contribution and what a working system teaches us.

What we need to see

  • An active research program relevant to systems, architecture, security, AI, or human-computer interaction
  • Interest in both the scientific contribution and what a working system demands
  • A university appointment you intend to keep
  • Willingness to have your ideas tested against production reality

Nice to have

  • Prior industry collaboration that produced something real
  • Students who might work alongside the project
  • A publication record in a relevant venue

The exercise

Propose a question your laboratory could investigate that produces a useful result even if the original hypothesis is disproved.

Where and how we work

In the office together five days a week, in any of these cities. Remote-friendly around your family, arranged one person at a time.
