About the role

You learn by building something useful alongside experienced engineers, owning a bounded contribution with close mentorship. There is no single route in: universities, vocational programs, open-source communities and independent study all count, and we have hired from all of them.

The work

Work on a defined systems, hardware, application or tooling project. Learn to test changes, review evidence and explain tradeoffs. Receive regular feedback and collaborate with the people who will use or maintain your work.

What good looks like

By the end of the agreed paid placement, ship a reviewed contribution with tests or validation appropriate to the work and a clear handoff.

Evidence we look for

Bring solid fundamentals, curiosity and evidence that you build and learn. Applicants may come through universities, vocational programs, open-source communities or independent study.

What we need to see

  • Solid fundamentals in whatever you have chosen to learn
  • Curiosity, and evidence that you build and finish things
  • Something you made that we can look at, however small
  • You ask questions early rather than getting quietly stuck

Nice to have

  • Open-source contributions
  • A project you took further than the assignment required
  • Experience teaching somebody else what you learned

The exercise

Show a project, explain one difficult problem you solved and describe what you would improve with another week.

Where and how we work

In the office together five days a week, in any of these cities. Remote-friendly around your family, arranged one person at a time.
